Change Your Driving Habits and Save Money
1. Avoid accelerating too quickly; try not to push the gas pedal down more then a quarter of the way down. This will allow the carburettor to function at its best allowing better gas mileage.
2. Avoid resting your left foot on the clutch or brake pedal. Even a light touch such as this will cause not only extra wear but also creates more drag that requires more fuel.
3. Rough and dirty roads can use up to 30% of your gas mileage, so whenever possible avoid them to get the most out of your car.
4. Remember the old saying, “the quickest way to get from point A to point B is a straight line.” Keep this in mind when running your errands. The extra corners and lane changes in your current route may be costing you a lot in mileage.
5. Stoplights are, more often than not timed, for your advantage. By travelling at the posted, legal speed limit, you will increase your chances of catching the green light.
6. If you have an automatic transmission, a great way to reduce excess strain on the transmission is to let it cool down. You can place your car in neutral at railroad stops, even in long waits at the traffic lights.
7. When parking your car try to park in a position that will allow you to move forward from the parking spot. By avoiding backing up your car up you will save fuel.
8. When approaching a hill build your speed prior to reaching it, waiting until you are in an incline on the hill will require much more fuel, to save even more coast down the hill.
